Czerumcha began with bird cherries gathered from the nearby forest, their dark, tart fruit calling for something deeper than a traditional vodka infusion. Dark rum became the foundation, joined by palm sugar, jaggery and honey for layered sweetness. From there, the recipe travelled east through spice: smoky black cardamom, dried ginger, star anise, coriander, long pepper and a flicker of gochugaru. The result is a dark, aromatic forest liqueur where wild fruit meets warm spice, gentle heat and the rich character of rum. Familiar czeremucha takes an unexpected path, becoming something earthy, fragrant and distinctly its own.
